I grew up surrounded by the world of painting. From a young age, I remember my dad coming home in his paint-covered clothes, sharing stories about the day’s projects around the dinner table. Paint vans, paint cans, and painters were a constant part of my life, shaping my early years and leaving a lasting impression.
At just 13 years old, I started working summers in the family business. My role began with simple tasks like moving drop cloths and supporting the professional painters my father employed. During college, I arranged my schedule to attend classes from Tuesday to Thursday so I could drive back from Cal Poly on weekends to work with the team.
A Journey Beyond the Family Business
When I graduated college, I didn’t initially see myself taking over the family business. Instead, I pursued a career abroad in international trade. This opportunity allowed me to gain valuable experience and explore new horizons.
However, the 2009 economic downturn changed everything. As the global economy struggled, our family business faced one of its greatest challenges. I returned to California to help navigate these difficult times, and in doing so, I rediscovered the unique opportunity I had overlooked.
Embracing the Family Legacy
Coming back to the family business, I saw it with fresh eyes. I was fortunate to have a father with over 30 years of experience as my mentor, a supportive brother with complementary skills, and a company with a stellar reputation. Together, we built on this legacy, focusing on hiring like-minded professionals and fostering a team dedicated to quality and craftsmanship.
Working alongside my family has become one of the most fulfilling aspects of my career. Whether we’re planning projects, tackling challenges, or celebrating successes, the sense of camaraderie and shared purpose is unmatched.
